Overview
Cellnex entered Dutch market through acquisition of Protelindo and Shere Group in 2016. A year later, the company acquired Aticom. The company has presence in Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Switzerland, UK, Ireland, Portugal, Denmark and Austria.
In 2021 January, Cellnex Telecom and Deutsche Telekom created a new, independently managed fund called Digital Infrastructure Vehicle which aims to invest in fibre networks, mobile towers and data centres across Europe. Cellnex and DT signed an agreement to merge their Dutch mobile tower businesses into Cellnex Netherlands B.V.. DT will hold 38% stake while Cellnex NL will hold a 62% stake in DIV. DIV will be open to institutional investors and it intends to hold a limited partner stake of approximately 25%.
DT operates its Dutch tower business via Telekom Infra.
In the beginning of 2021, Cellnex Telecom bought around 7,000 towers from a Polish service provider Cyfrowy Polsat. The company said it intends to spend around 600 million euros on Polish 5G equipment.
In Q2 2021, Cellnex had 31 edge data centres in the Netherlands.
January 2023, the news that American Tower (ATC) and Brookfield are weighing up a potential takeover bid for Cellnex.
August 2023, Cellnex is considering a sale of its minority stake in Nordic operations valued at 1 billion euros.
