Overview

EngineNode is a Dublin-based data centre operator that was founded in 2018 by Jason O'Conaill and Ronan Kneafsey. Jason was Eircom's head of data centres and the founder of AWS User Group Ireland while Ronan was a managing director of telecoms and data centres at Eircom.

The company currently have a project in Bracetown and Gunnocks, which is located next to Meta’s Cloone Campus in County Meath. Planning was initially submitted in 2019 for a four-data centre, 25-ha campus. The initial plan also contained an on-site energy centre, which was later removed. Conditional consent by Meath County Council was granted in June 2020.

There have been multiple attempts by local third-party organisations to stop the development, with initial complaints being dismissed by An Bord Pleanála, who also dismissed EngineNode’s challenges to the conditions set out by Meath County Council. In July 2023, the attempt to block the development by a local family, the Coynes, was dismissed by the Irish High Court.
