Overview

Established in 1997, FCT was instituted as the successor to the Junta Nacional de Investigação Científica e Tecnológica. The Foundation for Science and Technology operates under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education in Portugal.

This organization assumes the responsibility of assessing and financing endeavours in scientific research, with a distinct focus on natural sciences, exact sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

The organisation's data centre involvement is restricted to a self-build capacity, where data is processed in support of research and IT operations.
