Overview

Since its establishment in 1990, ITER has centred its efforts to the advancement of technology and innovation. The primary focus has been on extensive exploration and the creation of novel materials, processes, and technologies, all aimed at contributing to the sustainable progress of Tenerife. The overarching goal is to enhance the island's competitiveness.

From a technological standpoint, the organisation has undergone significant transformation to adapt to an environment where activities involve cross-disciplinary teams. This adaptation is prompted by the escalating demands and expectations of society. Notably, the burgeoning significance of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in recent times has propelled an expansion of activities in this sector.

In 1990, the organization inaugurated its wind park, featuring an initial 1.05MW installation which were designed to evaluate the operational requirements and performance of diverse wind turbines. Following this, wind and photovoltaic systems have been deployed.

Over the years, additional facilities have been established to bolster and enrich research and development. These include the D-ALiX High Availability Datacentre, a wind tunnel catering to civilian R&D applications, the GCC-ITER power-generation control center, and specialized laboratories for exploration in photovoltaics (SiCellLab), underground gases and water chemistry and isotopes, electronics, and genomics.
