Overview
The Office of Public Works (OPW) is an Irish government office which supports the implementation of government policy. It primarily advises on issues of property and flood risk management.
In 2018, OPW proposed a data centre project at the Backweston campus; a €200 million development launched by OPW in 2002. A year later, planning permission to construct a 5474 sqm data centre building was filed. The facility was initially planned to be completed by 2020 and predicted to cost €30 million. In 2022, however, the timeline was extended and the costs increased. Construction of the building is expected to finish by Q1 2024, with fit out expected by Q2 2025.
