Overview

Kenya is the technology powerhouse of East Africa and one of Africa’s top five key data centre countries, alongside South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, and Morocco. Its capital, Nairobi, ranks second after Johannesburg as Africa’s largest fintech hub. The country has two main data centre hubs: Nairobi and Mombasa. While Nairobi serves as the primary hub, Mombasa is a key connectivity point, hosting the landing of the sixth undersea fibre cable that links Kenya to Asia and Europe. With increased investments, the country is transitioning from a colocation retail hub to a colocation wholesale hub, as cloud operators show growing interest in setting up cloud regions in Kenya.
