Overview
Stockholm is the heart of internet traffic in the Nordic region, with most fibre networks in the region routing through the Swedish capital. This has triggered a significant growth in data centre supply in Stockholm over the past decade, with AWS and Microsoft recognising its potential to cater for low-latency public cloud deployments. These operators, locating to Stockholm's west and north, respectively, have enjoyed ever-decreasing latency as fibre networks continue to expand in the region, alongside clean energy and low electricity prices compared to the FLAP-D continental Europe hotspots.
AWS and Microsoft are continuing to expand their availability zones in the Stockholm market, each identifying them as priorities in their European portfolios. The past year has also seen new commitments in Stockholm from local and international players. EcoDataCenter and STACK Infrastructure are expanding their Swedish portfolios with large new investments, whilst Evroc, ScandiDC and Hyperco are targeting Stockholm as the location for their first European deployments.
