Overview

Sydney is the hub of Australia’s data centre activity, hosting 60% of the country's total capacity. The city is also a major financial centre in Australia. Beyond business demands by the multinational corporations in Sydney, the Australian government is also a large consumer of data centre capacity. Furthermore, Sydney is home to a large domestic population of over five million.

Sydney is primarily a wholesale market comprising a mix of domestic operators including AirTrunk, CDC Data Centres, NEXTDC and Macquarie Data Centres, and international operators such as Global Switch, Equinix, Fujitsu and Digital Realty. Sydney is also home to self-build deployments and pipeline projects owned by cloud service providers, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft. Meanwhile, other public cloud providers that have established a presence in Sydney are deployed solely in colocation data centres.
