Overview
Copenhagen is an increasingly in-demand European data centre market. The city's enduring focus on data centres using renewable energy and reusing waste heat offer a more socially and environmentally responsible location for operators.
Like the Danish national market, Copenhagen's composition has changed significantly in recent years. Historically, it has been characterised by its retail and enterprise colocation facilities, with IT capacity in the realm of 0.1 - 5MW per facility. However, new entrants STACK Infrastructure and atNorth have followed Microsoft's lead since the latter's ongoing construction of an availability zone to the south-west of the capital. These operators are constructing facilities in the tens of MW, not before seen in this market.
Operators are benefitting from Copenhagen's decreasing latency to key European data centre markets enabled by continuing fibre cable construction. However, customers may still pay a premium for colocation space, compared to Nordic metros (where electricity comes cheaper) and established FLAP-D markets.
