Overview

Strategically positioned at the crossroads of Africa, Europe, and Asia, Egypt is among Africa’s top five data centre hubs, alongside South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and Morocco. Its geographic location enables efficient submarine cable crossings from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, with 10 submarine cable landing stations currently in place. However, regulatory and legal barriers, a telecom monopoly, and strong competition from government-backed local players make it challenging for international operators to compete. However, growing investments from the Middle East, along with Middle Eastern data centre operators planning their initial facilities and campuses, have substantially increased the country’s data centre infrastructure.
